School gardening competition

SALGA are delighted to announce that the winner of our Schools Gardening Competition 2021 was Bridlewood Primary School and Nursery, Blunsdon St Andrew. Our decision followed a visit to the three schools who submitted the most promising photographs of their gardening efforts. During these visits, Bridlewood demonstrated the highest level of pupil engagement in the project; a representative from the school came to the prize giving our annual Horticultural Show (Pinetrees Community Centre, 4 September), and was presented with the trophy.

This year the competition was run in a slightly changed format. Kings Seeds generously donated 160 packets of seeds and these were topped up by a donation from one of our members.  All the primary schools in the area were emailed and offered some free seeds to get them started, and 29 schools responded. Some 8-10 packets of seeds were sent to each of these, and we asked them to send us some photos of the results.
